The himalaya shop is a unique place... It is both a shop and a meeting place for people wanting to savour the atmosphere and flavour of Tibet and Northern India, right here in the heart of Edinburgh.
Himalaya sells objects of arts and crafts - shawls, silk beddings, wall hangings, cushion covers and personal wear. There is jewellery and items that celebrate the rituals of Tibetan Buddhism - including a selection of spiritual music and books. As well as the shop, there is a lovely cafe, a meditation room and a peace garden.
One can sit in the cafe or the garden and enjoy a cup of Masala chai, coffee or a slice of a home-made cake.
The cafe offers a peaceful atmosphere in an informal setting. At the Himalaya we are especially dedicated to keeping Tibetan tradition and culture alive.
We have weekly events - traditional music from Tibet, films, discussions and art exhibitions.
We also support a Tibetan charity, Green Tara Scotland, which clothes, shelters and educates young children in Dehra-dun, Northern India.
