What is that we do?
Green Tara Foundations proposed projects include:
- To help find and link sponsors with the most needy of children from this region, thus ensuring the provision of good basic education.
- To continue to ensure the educational and vocational development of children that have initially been sponsored through basic and primary education.
- To support specific local enterprises that help generate income that would other wise not have been possible, thus providing training and carefully funded support for such projects.
Green Tara's Aims & Objectives
The ethos of Green Tara is that help is provided in the most appropriate way possible. In doing so help should be targeted effectively and endeavour to address both short term and long term causes of poverty. We provide help on a wide range of issues, such as:
- Individual education sponsoring
- Vocational training
- Assisting sustainable economic development
- Helping older people and other disadvantaged people (such as those with a disability) in the relief of poverty and hardship though financial assistance and care.
- Promoting awareness of social issues such as women's rights
How does it work?
Green Tara has close links with the Tibetan exiled community and other rural communities in northern India. This predominantly first hand experience comes from either having lived with or come from such communities. We believe this makes us ideally placed to effectively provide and direct help and assistance where it is most needed.
Green Tara's central focus has been on education and vocational training. This we believe is paramount to an individual's development both in economic and personal terms. Providing educational opportunities and assistance should ultimately allow an individual to gain independence through the development of a sustainable livelihood. This also enables the communities to develop and can help resolve often complex and co-occurring sets of problems.
These need to be considered together if disadvantaged communities are to be assisted and help individuals escape poverty. Members of Green Tara already help individuals from both Indian and Tibetan communities located in the Himalayan region.

Green Tara Expansion 12th December 2008
The Green Tara Charity currently help street children of Dehra Dun. Many of them are orphans and have no one to look after them but Green Tara gives them a safe place to stay and food to eat. We are hoping to run a school beginning in the summer of 2009. We intend to expand our current programme into the Dekyling and Rajpur Tibetan settlements in north India in order to help elderly Tibetan refugees in who have no children to take care of them in their old age. Exiled from their own country and having to leave their homes and families behind they have struggled to find employment in their host countries. With old age they face more difficult challenges. We hope to be able to raise money to provide warm shelter, food and clothing for the elderly and necessary health care to support Tibetan elders. With your support this will be possible.
Sponsoring education 1st January 2007
Members of Green Tara have been sponsoring children's education for some and this is what has motivated us to continue and expand on this work.
An example of the assistance members of Green Tara are currently involved in is that provided to Priya, Raju and Dhadon. They live in the Dehra Dun area of northern India in either Tibetan refugee communities or other deprived areas on the edge of the city. With the help of members of Green Tara they have been able to attend good schools and get a decent education. It is hoped that by accessing good education they will be able to get good jobs and that this will also enable them to help their local communities.
